Hi, I Have A Business Mentor With The Princes Trust But I Don’t Think It’s Necessary, Can I Stop The Mentoring

I recently started the Princes Trust Business start-up programme and I was offered a mentor as part of the program. My problem is not with the mentor he is a fantastic professional, too good in fact. I am part of the NES (New Entrepreneur Scholarship) program too and receive plenty help from them. I’m also doing an NVQ through the NES so I am tied to it slightly. But sometimes I’m told 1 thing from 1 person and something different from another; I feel like there is too many cooks if you know what I mean… I personally don’t want to call the Princes Trust to ask if I can be removed from the mentoring program in fear of souring my relations with them should the mentoring be mandatory and they say “no, you have signed the agreement” (which I have, although this was before the NES program began). Does anyone know if I have to go through with the mentoring or if I can cancel the agreement without repercussions?
Sorry its so longwinded. Thanks!

I am working to an assumption that you were given a loan as part of the start-up programme you mention. The answer is based on this being a correct assumption.
My understanding from when I was working with the Princes trust last year is that a mentor will be assigned to you, initially, for 2 years and that this cannot be changed. It would be possible to change mentor if you were not getting on with the one you have, however that is not the case with you and them.
Interestingly, the thing i noticed about your question, was that you mention getting conflicting advice. perhaps that is the route of the issue. which groups/people are giving the conflicting advice. one is the mentor, who is the other.
if you’d like me to help you work through this drop me an email
    Mike
